Ada Ka Wai CHENG is a versatile musician
“Ada is a performer, conductor, educator and clarinet technician. Ada graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a Masters Degree in clarinet performance. Ada has studied clarinet under the tutelage of great clarinettists like Alison Lambert, Alison Waller, John Koljonen, Pak Chit-Man, Martin Choy and the Eb clarinet expert – John Cooper.

Ada has performed in clarinet master classes given by Angela Malsbury, Leslie Craven and Robert Plane. Ada has got great benefit from studying in orchestral conducting with Maestro Cheng Tan, as well as with conductors like Dr. Timothy Reynish MBE, Philip Schott and Mark Heron at the Canford Summer School of Music.”
Ada is keen to promote and perform contemporary music
“she was invited to give world premieres for Hong Kong composers; LEE Tak Kwan – ‘Reminiscence’ for Clarinet and Piano (2004), LEE Kei Kei – ‘Duet for Clarinet and Piano’ (2004), Sierra Tse – ‘Ghost Marching III – Sorrow’ for Clarinet and Piano (2007) and Shirley Ma – ‘Hiding Among the Bushes’ for Clarinet, Piano and Percussion (2012); ‘A White Rose’ for Clarinet, Soprano and Piano (2014). Ada won the Woodwind Recital Open Class awarded by Paul Harris at the Portsmouth Music Festival in 2013.

Ada grew up in Hong Kong, she worked with the Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra as both clarinettist and assistant conductor, as principal clarinet for Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Symphonic Band, Eb Clarinettist for the Ponte Orchestra and more. Currently, Ada lives in Portsmouth in the United Kingdom, running the K’s Woodwind Workshop which provides woodwind repair services, instrumental tuition and musical performances. She joined the Army Medical Services Band as a civilian musician as well as being clarinettist and saxophonist for local ensembles. In 2018, Ada collaborates with Pianist, Kate Burrows, forming a clarinet and piano duet, they give recitals and enjoying the process of music making as well as discussing and discovering things of life.”
